A new report has revealed the reason why WWE chose to delay the release of the Lex Luger “Icons” documentary.
Originally set to release on July 4, the release of the latest WWE Icons documentary has been postponed. PWInsider has reported that WWE delayed the premiere so the documentary could have a stronger lead-in.
In recent years, WWE has premiered documentaries immediately after pay-per-view broadcasts. While a new premiere date is reportedly to be determined, the documentary will likely follow a major show this summer.
Lex Luger’s Icons episode was originally set to release on July 4 so the premiere would coincide with the anniversary of Luger slamming Yokozuna on July 4, 1993.
Luger went on to wrestle Yokozuna in the main event of SummerSlam 1993. This year’s Biggest Party of the Summer will reportedly be headlined by John Cena vs Roman Reigns.
The Universal Champion has recently stated that he believes there’s nobody in WWE to pass the torch to. Recalling his match with Cena at No Mercy 2017, Reigns explained how Cena is still still helping WWE, despite his absence.
