Stephen Amell has revealed CM Punk’s response to his text asking if he was really returning to wrestling, and joining AEW.
CM Punk is reportedly a hot topic of conversation within AEW currently. Actor Stephen Amell has admitted that he recently reached out to the former WWE Champion.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Amell claimed that Punk can still go in the ring, noting:
“I don’t want to betray stuff that I’ve talked about with Phil. I actually texted him when all this stuff broke like, ‘You coming back?’ He sent me back a photo of a cat shrugging.
“As a general rule, anything in the world of pro wrestling that is going to piss Vince McMahon off and get his competitive juices flowing, is probably good for business. The one thing I know for sure is that Phil can still go. He’s in great shape. I would love to see those guys in AEW or WWE. Phil vs. Triple H, you name it, it’d be great.”
Amell is familiar with a lot of the AEW locker room, teaming with Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks for a ROH match in 2017, before wrestling Christopher Daniels at All In in 2018.
Prior to these matches, Amell teamed with PAC (fka Neville) in WWE to face Rhodes (fka Stardust) and Wade Barrett at SummerSlam 2015.
Tony Khan recently addressed reports surrounding CM Punk and Daniel Bryan potentially signing with AEW.
