A recent report has revealed the backstage reaction of WWE’s network partners to CM Punk’s deal with All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
It was previously reported that WWE management aren’t viewing CM Punk joining AEW as a huge loss. As per Andrew Zarian on the Mat Men Podcast, WWE’s network partners were surprised that the rival promotion were able to get Punk under contract.
Noting that there is “a lot of stuff going on” with WWE and their partners, Zarian said:
“WWE’s network partners are shocked AEW is pulling off the CM Punk deal. The partners are shocked because they are not big wrestling fans. They only know names and when they hear a name like that (they wonder) why would they let him go? They don’t really know the inter-workings (and) of course, they are shocked. There’s a lot of stuff going on with the partners.”
During the July 28 Fight for the Fallen show, AEW made many references to the former WWE Champion. On the show, a huge AEW Rampage special was announced for August 20, in Chicago.
Actor Stephen Amell has revealed that he reached out to CM Punk following recent reports, stating that Punk “can still go”.
