It’s being reported that the recent Malakai Black vs Cody Rhodes feud and how it panned out was a Tony Khan vision.
As reported in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the story from the first night of Black attacking Arn Anderson in Miami leading to Black decisively beating Rhodes in Jacksonville was Khan’s plan.
Khan reportedly convinced Rhodes that Black was the right guy and this was the right time to lose in the way that he did, which was in about four minutes with Black’s foot on his chest after a Black Mass.
It was also noted that Malakai Black did come up with some of the material and scenarios between the start point and end point, such as the promo about Rhodes being a horse that needs to be put down.
The timing all worked out as Rhodes is off TV anyway to film the Go-Big Show, much like he did last year when he was written off AEW TV via Brodie Lee and the Dark Order.
There’s no word on whether the feud will continue but it does appear to be heading in that direction after Black stole one of Rhodes’ boots as Rhodes was teasing retirement after the match.
