A new report has discussed Adam Cole’s surprise AEW debut after the main event of AEW All Out on September 5.
On August 22, Adam Cole wrestled his final match for WWE, at NXT TakeOver 36. Two weeks later, Cole made a shock appearance at All Out, aligning himself with The Elite.
As per Fightful Select (subscription required), Cole’s AEW deal was only made “official” on Sunday, the day of All Out, but as merchandise and other aspects of the debut needed to be prepared, those who needed to know about Coles surprise appearance were informed beforehand.
It was previously stated that most of the AEW locker-room were not told about Cole joining the company, or about plans for his debut.
Talent involved with the finish of All Out reportedly discussed plans for the segment very late in the evening, after the CM Punk vs Darby Allin match.
Following the pay-per-view, Cole confirmed that he asked for an extension for his WWE contract ahead of NXT TakeOver 36. The former NXT Champion also stated that choosing to make the jump to AEW was a fairly easy decision.
