AEW President and CEO Tony Khan has commented on the possibility of the company signing Cesaro following his WWE departure last week.
Cesaro’s WWE contract expired and he turned down WWE’s offer for a new one, so with no non-compete clause he’s free to sign wherever he wants, whenever he wants.
During today’s media call ahead of Sunday’s Revolution pay-per-view, Khan was asked about the likelihood of AEW picking up Cesaro, real name Claudio Castagnoli. Khan said:
“I do like him a lot. And I have to say I met him many years ago and he’s a real gentleman, Claudio. I have a ton of respect for him as a pro wrestler. I think he’s a great athlete. He’s a phenomenal, phenomenal athlete, let’s be honest. His strength is tip-top, he has very few peers in the power department. And also mentally, he puts great matches together, he’s got great psychology and just a great guy. So yeah it’s always something I’d be open to.”

It’s no secret that AEW has been picking up plenty of ex-WWE names recently, notably Keith Lee, Sw3rve The Realest (Isaiah Scott/Shane Strickland) and likely Jeff Hardy.
At this point, it would be more of a surprise if Tony Khan didn’t sign Cesaro than if he did.
