Buddy Matthews (FKA Buddy Murphy) was released from WWE back in June 2021, and has worked several dates for various independent companies, as well as for MLW and NJPW.
However, per Fightful Select (subscription required), he may not remain a free agent for very long, as there are apparently rumblings about Matthews joining AEW in some capacity, from sources within the company.
Some within the company have heard that there were creative pitches made, with another going as far as to say that creative is already decided, although Fightful has been unable to confirm the latter.
Several talent within the promotion have been told that the working plan is to bring in Buddy Matthews, which has been the word going around since January.
