James Gunn has provided an update on the production of Peacemaker season two, set to star John Cena.
The 16-time World Champion impressed many with his portrayal of the titular character during the first season of the show, which originally aired in January and February.
Following some recent confusion about John Cena’s shooting schedule, showrunner James Gunn has now provided some clarification on when filming will begin for season two.
On Twitter , Gunn wished co-star Danielle Brooks a happy birthday. Indicating that shooting will commence in the next few months, Gunn wrote:
“Happy Birthday, @thedanieb! Love you and looking forward to hanging with you again, on set & off, in just a few months! ❤️🧜♂️”
After a fan claimed that James Gunn had deleted a reply noting that filming would start ‘earlier’ than Spring 2023, Gunn stated that production won’t commence until after Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 hits theatres, tweeting:
“I misread and was wrong. It won’t be until Vol 3 is released.”
Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3, directed by James Gunn, is currently slated for a May 5, 2023 release.
These updates indicate that John Cena won’t be busy filming Peacemaker when WrestleMania 39 rolls around in April 2023, leading to speculation that the former World Champion will make an appearance at the SoFi Stadium event.
As previously reported, WWE’s current plan for the WrestleMania 39 main event is Roman Reigns vs The Rock, however an in-ring return will only happen if The Rock’s schedule will allow for it.
John Cena last wrestled on WWE TV at SummerSlam 2021, losing to Roman Reigns in their Universal Title bout. He most recently appeared for the company in June on the 20th anniversary of his WWE SmackDown debut against Kurt Angle.
