UPDATE – Andrade El Idolo was sent home from tonight’s AEW Dynamite taping after a backstage incident with Sammy Guevara – read more here.
The recent public spat between Andrade El Idolo and Sammy Guevara online has some in the AEW locker room frustrated.
According to a new report from Fightful Select, there was frustration in the AEW locker room regarding the way things have played out between Andrade El Idolo and Sammy Guevara.
With a public Twitter spat in the books and now Andrade El Idolo’s match for AEW Rampage scrapped, it remains difficult to know the reality of the situation.
While Fightful spoke to talent and staff, while none claimed to hear that the public jabs were apart of a brewing storyline, one talent thought it could lead to something in the ring.
A veteran source was quoted as saying:
“They were talking about hitting each other hard and complaining, so if it’s a work, it’s a bad one. I’m sure they’ll eventually have a match though, just because people are talking.”
Meanwhile, another top talent told Fightful that they were frustrated by the way that it played out regardless of whether it was a work or a shoot.
Portraying a poor picture of the AEW locker room after having faced adversity as of late, the public spat is also noted as having been viewed as “disrespectful.”
With multiple talent pointing to the talent meeting led by Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley as a turning point in the right direction, an “AEW original” was noted in the report as saying they viewed the El Idolo/Guevara situation as disrespectful to the work that the three aforementioned had put in to bringing the locker room together.
Also, that one of the points that was repeated in recent weeks had been “to keep dirty laundry private” which this situation has not been adherent to.
While some talent were unwilling to comment on the Twitter fracas, there was a shared sentiment that the locker room had experienced more cohesion as of late.
