Bron Breakker overcame JD McDonagh and Ilja Dragunov in a triple-threat at Halloween Havoc to retain his gold. Has his next challenger for the NXT Championship been revealed?
In a WWE digital exclusive clip, Apollo Crews was interviewed backstage following his casket match win against Grayson Waller and made a clear statement that his focus is now on the NXT championship.
He said:
“But now it is time for me to move on as I shut Grayson Waller in a casket. I shut his mouth up for good. And he can talk a lot… but you see the real reason why I came back to NXT is my focus now, and do you know what that is?… That is the NXT Championship.”
Crews had faced Waller in a casket match during Halloween Havoc on October 22. The bout saw Waller crash Crews through the original casket, resulting in a replacement being brought out by the obligatory casket-carrying Druids.
The two traded blows in the second casket, before both settling down in exhaustion. It was Crews who managed the slam the lid shut on Waller, taking the win as a result.
During the match, commentary noted the winner of the casket bout would likely be in line for a shot at the NXT Title, teasing a potential match between the winner and Bron Breakker.
We will have to wait and see if the stars align for this match-up, but if Crews’ words are anything to go by, his focus is firmly on the NXT Title.
Bron Breakker retained his title at Halloween Havoc in an action-packed match that included a spot with Breakker delivering the Frankensteiner to McDonagh and into a Powerbomb, sending McDonagh through Dragunov.
Breakker secured the win by pinfall following a spear to Dragunov.
The next edition of NXT will take place tonight, October 25, and will feature all the fallout from Halloween Havoc and will include two tag team title matches.
So far, the card includes:
- Pretty Deadly (c) vs. Edris Enofe & Malik Blade – NXT Tag Team Championship
- Katana Chance & Kayden Carter (c) vs. Nikkita Lyons & Zoey Stark – NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship
- Shotzi vs. Lash Legend
- The mystery member of Schism will be revealed
