WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER has now addressed his controversial loss at Survivor Series 2019.
During the dominant star’s main roster pay-per-view debut, the then-NXT UK Champion sided with Team NXT during the 5-on-5-on-5 Raw vs SmackDown vs NXT elimination bout.
GUNTHER was shockingly eliminated less than three minutes into the bout by Drew McIntyre.
At the time, GUNTHER’s elimination sparked outrage within the NXT fanbase, who criticised WWE for their treatment of one of the most dominant champions in the brand’s history.
Speaking with Steve Fall on Ten Count, GUNTHER noted that he didn’t consider the fast loss to be a negative.
Explaining why, GUNTHER said:
“Yeah, that’s just how things go sometimes. There’s not much you can say.
“There was a decision that was made and you go along with it and try to make the best out of it.
“I don’t think it was negative… When I started doing my bit in that match and then getting eliminated early, I think that did something to me.
“I think it added to my popularity in that sense because a lot of people spoke about it.
“I think no harm was done and everybody needs to take a humbling experience here and there. So, I’m totally fine with it.”
GUNTHER is currently the WWE Intercontinental Champion, winning the gold from Ricochet in June.
He most recently defended the title on TV against Rey Mysterio on the November 4 edition of SmackDown.
