Controversial former WWE star nZo – known in WWE as Enzo Amore – has said that he could have “saved” Ring of Honor.
nZo, who also wrestles under the name Real1, was suspended from WWE following allegations of sexual assault back in January 2018, and fired shortly after.
Following his release, nZo and his former tag team partner W. Morrissey – known in WWE as Big Cass – took part in an angle in which they invaded the Ring of Honor/New Japan Pro-Wrestling G1 Supercard show at Madison Square Garden.
Though an angle was pitched for the two, a run for the two men did not materialise in either company.
Now nZo has spoken on the DDP Snake Pit podcast about his belief that such a run could have helped save ROH:
“Ring of Honor did not follow up that match with me and Cass. You could’ve sold out Madison Square Garden with Enzo and Cass, G.O.D., and the Briscoes in a tag team title match.
“You could’ve, you would’ve sold out the Garden again — and now Ring of Honor sold out to Tony Khan.
“The company would still maybe be alive if they booked that match. But then again, that’s on them.”
ROH went on hiatus in December 2021, and was later purchased by AEW owner Tony Khan.
The company has since had its titles absorbed into AEW programming, as well as having occasional ROH-branded pay-per-view events.
