UPDATE: Huge further news has emerged on William Regal heading to WWE – read more at this link.
Recently, the rumor mill has been churning with the possibility of AEW’s William Regal returning to WWE under Triple H.
Regal is currently under contract with AEW, reportedly signing for three years when he joined the promotion earlier this year.
This has not stopped people from speculating that he may return to his former promotion.
Rumors were spurred on when Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque shared a clip ahead of WarGames that included footage of William Regal’s old introduction to the event.
During the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer gave a brief update on what he currently knows about the situation.
He said:
“There’s stuff that I can’t say, but… whatever the three-year contract is, there’s something up here, okay? And it is certainly a possibility that he’s going back.”

Previously, Meltzer hinted that a WWE return for Regal was “something that’s in play.”
It seemed unlikely, as Regal has been at the centre of MJF’s rise to victory as the AEW World Champion.
That was until the November 29 edition of AEW Dynamite when MJF threw Regal’s help (and his brass knuckles) back in his face.
This surprising turn of events could pave the way for an exit for William Regal.
William Regal was released by WWE in January 2020 after more than two decades with the company. Notably, this pre-dates the regime change headed up by Triple H as Chief Content Officer.
