FTR (then known as the Revival) were given their releases from WWE back on April 10, 2020.
The duo then joined AEW in May, saving the Young Bucks in an angle designed to set up the highly anticipated dream match between the two teams.
Over a year later, CM Punk would make his return to professional wrestling after seven years away on August 20, 2021, and Punk quickly became friends with FTR during his time in the company.
Dax Harwood spoke about CM Punk’s run in AEW on the first episode of his FTR with Dax Harwood podcast.
Dax spoke about how there were some people in AEW who were not happy to see Punk in the company, as they worried about Punk ‘taking their spot’.
Dax then equated the situation to his and Cash’s arrival in the company, claiming that some in the company weren’t happy to see FTR in the company, specifically naming ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry.
He said:
“A ton of guys were worried about that, but you know, that’s human nature. When something is going good, you want it to continue to go good.
“When me and Cash came into AEW, there weren’t very many people that were happy to see us there. I’m just being blunt and honest with you.
“For example, he and I have talked about it, but Jack Perry was not happy to see us because he thought that me and Cash were going to come in and change up his whole style and try to make him someone he’s not.
“It’s not just CM Punk, it’s just when you have harmony in a locker room and things are going well, change is kind of hard for people, so yeah, there were a lot of people worried about it.”
Jack Perry went on to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship alongside Luchasaurus in January 2022.
Dax detailed a conversation he had with CM Punk following the infamous All Out media scrum during the episode, which you can read here.
