It was reported earlier this week following NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 show that the company had interest in bringing in Hikuleo to the company.
Hikuleo is set to face former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White in a loser leaves NJPW match, which has added fuel to the fire.
WWE had a presence on the Wrestle Kingdom 17 show, when WWE star Karl Anderson lost his NEVER Openweight Championship to Tama Tonga.
Well, ironically enough, WWE has interest in another NJPW star, the very man who unseated Anderson.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), WWE has expressed interest in signing Tama Tonga.
Fightful notes that, while the interest from WWE about bringing in Tonga is not new, word traveled through the NJPW locker room prior to Wrestle Kingdom 17.
Tonga had received an offer from WWE seven years ago, which he turned down in order to team with Tanga Loa in NJPW, with both Guerillas of Destiny remaining in NJPW since while several Bullet Club stablemates have moved over to WWE.
On top of this, NJPW sources have claimed that Tonga’s contract with the company is up ‘in a matter of weeks’, so the timing of WWE having interest in both Tonga and his brother Hikuleo at the same time, with one’s contract expiring soon and the other being booked in a loser leaves NJPW match, is very interesting.
