On the January 16 episode of WWE Raw, Cody Rhodes declared that he was going to be in the Royal Rumble.
He was last seen in a WWE ring at WWE Hell in a Cell, having already sustained an injury that would require surgery, in June 2022.
On the recent episode of WWE Raw, he addressed his plans to return at WWE Royal Rumble, with a video package charting his recovery playing as part of his announcement.
Further details of the reasoning about Cody’s return at the Rumble have been revealed by WrestleVotes.
On Twitter, WrestleVotes explained the reasoning, saying:
“Asked a source the reasoning behind Cody’s Rumble return being announced as opposed to a surprise…
“Source said it’s twofold, one being that nearly everyone expected it to happen already & two, source states they are “more than pleased” w/ the other surprises that are lined up.”
There may be good reason for that, as clues have emerged on potential Rumble returns for The Rock and Brock Lesnar.
Stephen Amell, the actor who played Oliver Queen in the Warner Bros television series Arrow, recently also confirmed that he would be at WWE Royal Rumble when it comes to the Alamodome on January 28.
Although he has wrestled for WWE before, making his in-ring debut at SummerSlam 2015, he will be at the show to show support for his friend (and SummerSlam tag-team partner) for his return to in-ring action.
Amell stepped into the ring two more times, once to team with Rhodes, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks at ROH Survival of the Fittest 2017, and again to face Christopher Daniels at All In in 2018.
