With a change in Warner Bros Discovery policy, Mark Briscoe is now able to appear on AEW Dynamite taking on Jay Lethal.
Following the death of Mark’s brother, Jay Briscoe, on January 17, AEW were reportedly unable to host a special tribute episode of Dynamite for him due to Warner Bros Discovery not wanting the Briscoes featured on the show.
Mark Briscoe had been unable to appear on WBD (and AEW) based on comments Jay had made many years ago and that he had since apologized for many times.
In the days following the real-life Jamin Pugh’s death, however, the policy has shifted, with Tony Khan describing the match set for January 25 as “a great match to honor a great man.”
Now, further details of the backstage reaction to the match announcement have been revealed.
Fightful Select (subscription required) reports that the talent that they had spoken to were “overjoyed” about Mark Briscoe being on the show this week.
Talent had also expressed their belief that Mark Briscoe could have been on Dynamite before Jay’s passing, though Fightful have stated “that wasn’t the case”.
The report would also say that the new WBD bosses “were said to have been helpful” in Tony Khan’s efforts to make the Mark Briscoe appearance a reality for what would have been Jay Briscoe’s 39th birthday.
