Triple H and Vince McMahon share something in common when it comes to their vision of WWE’s future and that’s one particular wrestler.
Vince McMahon had pitched Austin Theory as a potential successor to John Cena and Triple H has now revealed that he shares this sentiment.
In an interview with ESPN, WWE’s Chief Content Officer spoke highly of Theory, saying:
“It’s a nuanced feeling… once you see this guy’s a great athlete, I’m looking for their personality, their charisma.
“Austin Theory has it, and then some.
“Do I think he has all the potential to be one of the biggest stars in the business? Absolutely. What determines that? A lot of that is up to him now.”
Triple H would reflect on the skill of Theory going beyond his personality and charisma, stating:
“You give him little bits of things here and there and he’s improving his game and he’s smart.
“He listens to the crowd, he listens to the people. He sees all the stuff that’s going on, and he adapts his game on a regular basis.”
Austin Theory joined WWE in 2019 having wrestled for Evolve Wrestling in 2017.
His current run on the main roster is his second run, having initially worked on WWE Raw as an associate of Zelina Vega.
He would return to NXT in August 2020 and find himself as part of The Way with Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell.
As part of the WWE Draft of 2021, he would be drafted back to WWE Raw and become part of a storyline with Mr McMahon and the youngest Money in the Bank winner.
Austin Theory is the current WWE United States Champion.
