A huge NJPW rivalry will be renewed at the upcoming Battle in the Valley US special, set to emanate from San Jose, California.
At the February 11 The New Beginning In Osaka show, Kazuchika Okada most recently defended the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Shingo Takagi.
Following the match, Kazuchika Okada issued a challenge to Hiroshi Tanahashi for the February 18 pay-per-view.
Tanahashi, who was on commentary, entered the ring to accept Okada’s challenge.
Okada and Tanahashi’s rivalry is one of the most acclaimed in all of wrestling. While many consider Okada defeating Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 10 during a ‘passing of the torch’ moment to be the end of the duo’s story, the two aces have had a number of amazing matches since then.
Their most recent one-on-one encounter saw the Rainmaker pin the Ace in the 2021 G1 Climax tournament.
The Battle in the Valley show will feature a number of high profile matches, including Mercedes Mone’s (Sasha Banks) return to the ring against IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI.
Here’s the announced card for NJPW Battle in the Valley:
– Bobby Fish vs. David Finlay – Pre-show
