An AEW star has admitted to crying during Keiji Muto’s final match.
On February 21, Keiji Muto’s Grand Final Pro Wrestling “Last Love” Hold Out event took place at the Tokyo Dome in conjunction with Pro Wrestling NOAH.
The star studded event featured stars from NJPW, AJPW, TJPW, DDT Pro Wrestling and more.
In the main event, the legendary Keiji Muto had his final pro wrestling match against New Japan’s Tetsuya Naito. After losing the bout, Muto decided to challenge his long time rival Masahiro Chono to one final retirement bout and lost to him as well.
Given the iconic status of Muto, this was an emotional experience for fans and wrestlers alike, including one of AEW’s fastest rising stars.
Konosuke Takeshita posted on Twitter following Muto’s last match to pay tribute to one of his wrestling heroes and expressed some of his feelings about the beautiful ending to the legend’s career. He said:
A Japanese legend wrestler left the ring. I could not stop crying when I watch his last match. Yes, I guess pro wrestling is the best sport and entertainment. My wrestling career is still going on. I dream of one day becoming a superstar like you.

Takeshita and Muto barely connected throughout their respective careers, but they did share the ring with one another twice in tag team action.
The Tokyo Dome event also featured IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada defeating GHC Heavyweight Champion Kaito Kiyomiya.
Muto had his final match as “The Great Muta”, teaming with AEW stars Sting and Darby Allin last month and appeared at the AEW Rampage: Grand Slam event last September.
