The March 8 episode of AEW Dynamite had a “major pivot” from original plans for one match according to a recent report.
In the main event of the episode, Powerhouse Hobbs faced Wardlow in a Falls Count Anywhere match for the TNT Championship.
The match would see Hobbs become the new TNT champion thanks to assistance from a returning QT Marshall.
According to a previous report, AEW had tentatively planned for Powerhouse Hobbs to become the champion “around this time months ago”.
Further details of the main event on this week’s AEW Dynamite have been revealed by Fightful Select (subscription required).
Fightful Select report that “last night’s main event was a major pivot point” from original plans.
They also state that the match wasn’t listed as a Falls Count Anywhere match internally.
The match itself was produced by Pat Buck.
In addition, and supporting the earlier reporting on Hobbs as champion, Fightful Select also reports that the TNT title changes of late were “at least tentatively planned months ahead.”
They would cite that Darby Allin had filmed with the belt before he won it.
In 2023, the TNT Championship has changed hands three times, from Darby Allin to Samoa Joe onto Wardlow and now Powerhouse Hobbs.
