Kofi Kingston suffered an injury on the March 3 episode of SmackDown that has written him off TV while he recovers.
This has impacted the plans for the March 10 episode of SmacDown which now sees Xavier Woods take Kingston’s place in a Fatal 5-Way for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Dave Meltzer has provided an update on Kingston and his likely return date to the ring.
In the new Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Meltzer writes:
“Kingston suffered an ankle injury when McIntyre did a running flip dive on several people. It was just a fluke deal.
“The time frame we are hearing is five weeks. There was concern earlier it could be longer because he may have needed surgery and if he does need surgery it would be lengthy.
“But all impressions are based on what he said publicly and the word privately is that he won’t be needing the surgery right now.”
Kingston had reacted to the injury in positive terms recently, sharing a photo on his social media.
