A new report has revealed an update on the planned WrestleMania 39 Night 1 main event.
As previously reported, Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter has stated that Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship is currently being favored to be the main event of WrestleMania 39 Night 1.
However, it seems like there are now some conflicting reports in regards to the certainty that Flair and Ripley will headline WrestleMania Saturday.
Fightful Select (subscription required) has provided an update, noting that several people who would typically be in the know, and many talent associated have not been informed that the SmackDown Women’s Championship match will headline the show.
The report notes that as of one point, The Usos vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn was slated to be the main event of the show. There has also been several in the company pushing for it to headline as well.
It remains to be seen which match will close out Night 1 of Mania, but it looks like the decision has not been confirmed as of yet.
The only thing that seems to be confirmed from all involved is that Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will headline WrestleMania 39 Night 2.
