Details of a planned AEW match between one of its top stars and a retired name currently facing a series of allegations have been revealed.
Following news that Davey Richards is retiring from wrestling after claims of domestic abuse, details of his involvement in AEW have emerged.
Multiple companies cut ties with Richards after the allegations against him were made public.
Fightful Select (subscription required) was also able to reveal that Richards was “on the outs in wrestling” with his relationship with Major League Wrestling, in particular, ending in February 2023.
They were able to reveal that Richards’ claims that he was approached by AEW to work with Bryan Danielson weren’t all they seemed either.
According to Fightful Select, Richard had contact with AEW producer Sonjay Dutt but AEW had informed MLW that Richards wasn’t planned to come in.
Instead, Timothy Thatcher would face Bryan Danielson on the February 1 episode of AEW Dynamite.
According to the report, it was felt that Thatcher was a “more suitable opponent” for Danielson as he fought his way to face MJF.
