WWE is holding its latest tryouts for college athletes this week in the leadup to the weekend’s WrestleMania festivities in Los Angeles, California.
The MO under the current WWE regime seems to be for the Performance Center and NXT to bring on a balance of college athletes and indie wrestlers, rather than extremes too far in either direction which is what had been happening in prior years.
As reported by ESPN, 50 current or former college athletes will attend these tryouts, with the standouts to be offered developmental contracts at the end of the week.
The report states that 37 different schools and 13 different sports are being represented by the athletes this time around.
For males, the sport with the biggest offering is football with 13 athletes trying out, and for females, it’s track and field with nine.
There are also notably athletes from wrestling, basketball, powerlifting and cheerleading.
Among the athletes participating in the tryouts according to ESPN are:
Kelly Bryant – Former Clemson Quarterback
Mark Vital – Baylor Basketball Defensive Standout
Caleb Kelly – Ex-Oklahoma Linebacker
Kyrei Fisher-Morris – Former Oregon State Linebacker
Bamidele Olaseni – Former Utah Offensive Lineman
Kevin Feder – Ohio State Offensive Lineman
Morgan Stewart – Former Baylor Track Standout
Breanna Covington – Fresno State All-Mountain West Track Honoree
Kasey Ebb – San Diego State All-Mountain West Track Honoree
Reggie Jagers – Kent State Discus Olympian
