A potential title change in WWE has reportedly had to be shelved due to an injury to one of the company’s rising stars.
As we’ve previously covered, NXT talent Sol Ruca recently suffered a torn ACL and underwent surgery, which means she could be out of action for around nine months.
Ruca was clearly on the rise, and just before her injury, had been paired with another new talent with big potential, Dani Palmer.
Palmer made what was called her debut on NXT TV earlier this week, but she’d actually already had two matches on NXT TV in January.
Nonetheless, there were clearly plans for them to be a tag team and those plans have had to be changed due to Ruca’s injury.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ruca and Palmer were set to be a “major pushed” babyface tag team, even to the point there was talk of them winning the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship within a just few months.
Obviously plans will now have to proceed with Palmer being a singles talent instead unless she’s paired up with someone else.
She won her “debut” match this past Tuesday against Tatum Paxley.
The status of the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship itself is currently unclear as titleholders Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn were drafted to SmackDown and said they’re taking the belts with them.
In contrast, the singles NXT Women’s Championship was vacated on Tuesday by Indi Hartwell as she was drafted to Raw and also suffered an ankle injury during her match a week prior.
The new champion will be crowned in a tournament final at NXT Battleground on May 28.
The frontrunners look to be Tiffany Stratton, Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade.
That tournament will kick off on the next episode of NXT, but no matches or brackets have been announced yet.
