WWE star Robert Roode had his last wrestling match in June 2022 and has since undergone neck surgery, revealing he’s cleared to return.
Over the past few months, Roode has been serving as a backstage producer in WWE and has recently discussed his work on the Insight podcast.
Speaking on Insight, Bobby Roode explained his current medical status, saying:
“Ironically enough, I just got green-lighted. The fusion has completely fused.
“So as far as looking at it from a medical point of view, it’s safe to get back in the ring I guess.”
He would reveal, however, that he doesn’t see a return to the ring as something he’s rushing to do, stating:
“But at almost 48 years old, given the opportunity I’ve been given now, to work as a producer, which was my goal coming to WWE almost eight years ago, I’m quite happy doing this. And I feel like I’ve had a good run as they say and I’m happy to be doing what I’m doing now.”
Van Vliet would question Roode further, asking about the possibility of a one-off appearance, with the WWE star replying:
“You never know, yeah, sure. Could I do this full-time? There’s no way I could. Look, to be honest, the injury, I have three levels that are bad. The level six and seven are not good either.”
Following a career that saw him perform in TNA Wrestling, NJPW and across the independent scene, Roode signed with WWE in 2016 and made his debut in NXT and would hold that brand’s championship.
He would be called up to the main roster in August 2017, going on to hold the WWE United States Championship and both the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
