Trick Williams next WWE United States Championship challenger: Three stars who could step up after Money in the Bank

After over two months of back-and-forth, Trick Williams has now convincingly put Baron Corbin behind him with his steel cage match victory on WWE SmackDown.

With the United States Title picture being dominated by the pair for a while now, fans will be excited to see who potentially steps up to challenge next after Money in the Bank has come and gone.

Here are three WWE stars who could potentially step up and challenge Trick Williams for the US Title:

Carmelo Hayes

If we’re talking about the United States Championship there is one man who should be at the front of the line: Carmelo Hayes.

Hayes saw his US Title reign come to an end less than a month before WrestleMania 42, with Sami Zayn going on to defend the gold against Trick Williams at the show.

Since then, Hayes has been on the hunt for the title but has mostly taken a backseat to other names such as Ricky Saints and Baron Corbin.

While his last shot at the title did end in a loss during Corbin’s reign, he has yet to get a fair one-on-one shot at his former tag team partner Trick Williams. Having now been off TV for over a month, it’s time for Hayes to be brought back and inserted back into the conversation.

Damian Priest

After two years as a babyface, Damian Priest is back in his more natural heel role after attacking former tag team partner R-Truth during the September 11 episode of SmackDown.

As evidenced by his recent attack on Truth at the WWE Performance Center, he is certainly not done with the veteran star. However, once that rivalry is behind him, he would make for a standout candidate to potentially challenge Trick Williams for the US Title.

Priest matches Trick physically and would certainly provide a legitimate threat to his reign.

The only concern would be whether a feud between them would feel a bit too familiar after Trick’s run-ins with fellow monster heel Baron Corbin.

Tony D’Angelo

One potential rival who would provide a bit of a breath of fresh air would be former NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo.

Tony D has been stuck in NXT for five years and has had to wait patiently for his turn at the main roster as his former peers, such as Trick Williams, passed him by.

With D’Angelo’s NXT Title reign now over, and his attempt at earning a rematch falling flat, it feels like a perfect time for WWE to call him up at long last.

Bringing D’Angelo into the US Title picture would be a great way to ensure he has a focus on main roster, rather than getting lost in the shuffle.
