Drew McIntyre WWE return update: ‘The Scottish Warrior’ is back in the ring, could he take a Money in the Bank spot?

A potential update has emerged regarding Drew McIntyre’s return to WWE in-ring action following a five month absence.

With his last match coming all the way back at WrestleMania 42 Night One on April 18, Drew McIntyre has been busy adding to his Hollywood resume over the past five months; wrapping up filming for his role in the Highlander reboot in June before immediately moving onto another role in upcoming action movie The Last Druid.

Back when it was revealed that McIntyre would be starring in The Last Druid, it was also reported that he wouldn’t be back in WWE “anytime soon,” squashing rumors that had been swirling regarding his comeback.

However, now, some three months on from that report, we have our biggest indication yet that a return could be nearing, as McIntyre has taken to Twitter to share footage of himself training inside a wrestling ring.

Captioning the post “Reps.”, McIntyre can be seen running the ropes, and as expected, it doesn’t appear as if he has lost a step (see below).

While this does not necessarily mean he’s set for an imminent return, it is perhaps an indication that it’s coming in the relatively near future, or, at least is on Drew’s mind enough that he feels the need to get his “reps” in.

Could we see Drew McIntyre at Money in the Bank?

WWE Money in the Bank 2026 is right around the corner on October 10, and at the time of writing, five of the six spots in the men’s ladder match are accounted for.

With the last spot set to be taken by a SmackDown star, could we see a situation where Drew McIntyre returns to book his place in the match next week? Or, alternatively, could ‘The Scottish Warrior’ take out another star in the match and take a spot by force?

Although McIntyre did finally capture the Undisputed WWE Championship once again at the start of 2026, his failed cash-in of the Money in the Bank briefcase was a massive missed opportunity; one that he could look to make up for this year.

With the SmackDown main event picture more packed than ever, and Nick Aldis likely not in a rush to do Drew any favors given their past issues, it may take a Money in the Bank contract to ensure that Drew gets another shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Whether at Money in the Bank or not, Drew McIntyre’s return is an exciting prospect

Once again, SmackDown’s main event scene is packed with talent; many of whom Drew McIntyre is more than familiar with. But most exciting of all has to be his potential run-ins with CM Punk or Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn.

McIntyre defeating Zayn at the 2026 Royal Rumble is sort of what sent him down his path towards a heel turn, so it’d be interesting to see what McIntyre thinks of Zayn’s actions since he’s been gone. The WWE Champion has also never beaten McIntyre, so it would be interesting to see him try to finally overcome that mountain by any means necessary.

Few fans would complain if WWE revisited Drew’s feud with CM Punk. It was the best work Punk has done since his WWE return, and arguably the best feud of McIntyre’s entire career.

Whatever form it takes, and when, Drew McIntyre’s return to WWE will certainly shake things up in a big way.
