Former WWE Raw star Grayson Waller currently holds NXT’s top prize, winning the NXT Championship at the recent Heatwave special.
With the likes of Waller, the Creed Brothers and Los Americanos returning to WWE’s developmental brand in recent weeks, there has been some speculation about more NXT stars facing off against main roster mainstays.
While Kelani Jordan was unsuccessful in her Money in the Bank qualifier during her recent Raw visit, we could soon see some other Performance Center names step up to battle Raw and SmackDown’s best.
Here are three NXT stars to challenge for main roster championships.
Saquon Shugars – Intercontinental Championship
This match has actually been confirmed, with Saquon Shugars set to face off against a popular star from the Raw brand.
Shugars will challenge for Chad Gable’s WWE Intercontinental Championship on Friday’s (September 25) NXT house show in Columbia, SC.
While the WWE Women’s World Championship recently changed hands at a non-televised event, it’d be a big surprise to see Chad Gable’s reign come to an end at the hands of Shugar, given the momentum Gable has picked up on Monday nights in recent weeks.
Regardless of whether Tristan Angels or another star interferes to cost Shugars the match, this opportunity is huge for Shugars, who is clearly viewed as a future star.
Kendal Grey – Woman’s Intercontinental/US Championship
Kendal Grey swiftly rose through the ranks in NXT, with the 2025 Iron Survivor Challenge winner going on to win the NXT Women’s Championship in June.
With Grey recently losing the gold to Kelani Jordan at Heatwave on August 30, and recent comments about being sidelined with vertigo and ear trauma, there has been some uncertainty about her next move in WWE.
When Kendal Grey returns to the ring, we could see her follow in the footsteps of Sol Ruca and have a soft-call-up, having sporadic appearances on the main roster ahead of officially joining a Raw or SmackDown to show a new audience what she is capable of.
Women’s Intercontinental Champion Raquel Rodriguez and Women’s US Champion Jacy Jayne would both be great first opponents for Grey on the main roster, for a match to showcase the former NXT Women’s Champion.
Myles Borne – US Championship
On Friday Night SmackDown, Trick Williams will defend his US Championship against Baron Corbin in a Steel Cage match.
If Trick Williams is able to leave Indianapolis with the gold, it would be interesting to see him once again face off against Myles Borne.
Borne was Trick Williams’ final televised opponent ahead of his main roster call-up, with the current US Champion coming up short against Myles in an Iron Survivor Challenge qualifier on the November 18 NXT Gold Rush special.
Following Myles Borne’s recent character change, and all of Williams’ success on SmackDown this year, a rematch with completely different dynamics, and for the US Championship, would turn a lot of heads.
