WWE NXT injury: Dorian Van Dux punctured lung hopefully won’t affect the Belgian’s impressive rise up the ranks

There was some unfortunate news during tonight’s episode of WWE NXT as Dorian Van Dux was ruled medically unable to wrestle.

DVD, from Brussels in Belgium, was set to take part in a six-man tag team match on the show, teaming up with his regular tag partner Sean Legacy as well as Zilla Fatu, taking on Birthright members Lexis King, Uriah Connors and Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo.

In a locker room meeting taped earlier in the day, Van Dux was eager to compete despite a punctured lung, but Legacy stood firm and asserted that he needed to listen to the advice of medical personnel.

Plus, Legacy had already arranged a replacement – EK Prosper – to fill in alongside himself and Fatu in DVD’s absence.

The big picture – The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic

There’s a bigger picture which is the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament that kicked off tonight, which Legacy and Van Dux are set to be part of as well.

In fact, they’re not just in the tournament, but they’re considered by many to be among the favorites to win the entire thing, overcoming the other 13 teams in the field.

In tonight’s Dusty Classic matches, the team of Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno defeated Los Americanos, while the Creed Brothers advanced against Harley Riggins and Jax Presley.

Legacy and Van Dux’s first round match is against the Tokyo Bad Boys from AAA – Kento and Takuma.

The Tokyo Bad Boys have been among the impressive duos in AAA along with the likes of Money Machine, but Legacy and Van Dux would have to be the favorites in that match.

As noted, some fans make them the top bet to go all the way to the trophy, which makes the timing of Van Dux’s injury even more frustrating.

Hopefully, he’s only out temporarily and he’ll be cleared in time for that match against the Tokyo Bad Boys, because the Dusty Cup could be the start of a real breakout moment.

Potential big push for Dorian Van Dux

Dorian Van Dux came into WWE around the same time as multiple other European recruits like Romeo Moreno, Elio LeFleur, Mason Rook and Lizzy Rain.

Already accomplished on the indies under the name Mike D Vecchio, the Belgian has an impressive blend of power and speed that is matched by few on the entire WWE roster.

He’s certainly a candidate for a push on his own if his partnership with Legacy isn’t the long-term plan – and even if they are successful in the Dusty Cup and maybe even go on to become NXT Tag Team Champions, a heel turn from Van Dux against Legacy might be the perfect way to propel him to the next level as a singles talent.
