And Still: what’s next for Trick Williams after retaining title on WWE SmackDown

Ahead of his WWE Money in the Bank 2026 appearance, Trick Williams first had to get past a title defense on SmackDown.

A feud that even included rapper Lil Yatchy seems to have resolved on tonight’s WWE SmackDown with a steel cage match.

With Baron Corbin challenging his on-going rival Trick Williams for the WWE United States Championship, it was anyone’s guess who might come out on top.

And still…

Trick Williams was able to retain his WWE United States Championship in a steel cage match on tonight’s September 25 WWE SmackDown.

It wasn’t an easy bout however with Baron Corbin certainly getting in some powerful moves in the process.

Between Williams nearly escaping over the top of the cage but Corbin bringing him back over and down with a super plex to Lil Yatchy getting a little payback of his own hitting Corbin with the door to the steel cage, shockingly Corbin still kicked out.

In the end the former NXT Champion was able to hang on to deliver a series of Book Ends to Corbin to take the victory.

What’s next for Trick Williams?

Trick now looks ahead to an even bigger challenge — the WWE Money in the Bank 2026 ladder match.

Already set to take on a formidable set of foes in PENTA, Je’Von Evans and Bron Breakker, there’s another threat coming Trick Willy’s way.

With the qualifying match on the September 25 edition of WWE SmackDown set to host a barn burner between CM Punk vs. GUNTHER vs. Finn Balor, the competition for the WWE Money in the Bank briefcase will only get more intense.

Trick in the Bank?

While the odds on favorite seems to be PENTA amongst fan circles online for who might win the men’s Money in the Bank 2026 ladder match, there is a solid case to be made for why Trick Williams is actually the perfect winner.

With WWE already selling Trick Williams fur jackets on for Halloween and not to mention his on-going popularity with fans young and young at heart alike, there is a great opportunity for a customized Money in the Bank briefcase.

Since recent memory has boasted some very cool customizations for the Money in the Bank briefcase including iterations turned pink for Tiffany Stratton, black and yellow caution tape theme for Naomi and a sharp black and gold for the Vision’s Seth Rollins — perhaps it is time for Trick Willy to be next to carry a customized WWE Money in the Bank brief case soon.

Even if Williams doesn’t pick up the money in the bank win himself, there is still a chance the briefcase could come home with him. Williams’ real life wife Lash Legend qualified for the women’s iteration of the titular match later in the September 25 episode of SmackDown.
