What’s next for Baron Corbin after losing to Trick Williams in US Championship Steel Cage match? Three potential directions for the former champion

Baron Corbin concluded his rivalry with Trick Williams on the September 25 SmackDown episode, with the two stars facing off in a Steel Cage bout.

Ahead of Friday’s bout, Corbin and Williams had traded the WWE United States Championship, with Corbin winning the gold at SummerSlam, during his first televised match for the company following his return.

Trick Williams won the US Title back at Sunday Night’s Main Event, with Lil Yachty surviving five minutes in a Survive and Advance match to earn Trick his championship rematch.

On this week’s SmackDown episode, Williams defended the US Championship against Baron Corbin in a Steel Cage match. Williams was ultimately victorious, pinning Corbin to definitively defeat the recently-returning star.

With Baron Corbin’s first feud following his return to the company now complete, it will be interesting to see what the star does next.

There are a number of avenues the former “Bishop Dyer” could go in now he’s leaving the US Championship picture.

Here are three potential directions for Baron Corbin following his loss to Trick Williams.

Lil Yachty rematch

With Lil Yachty directly contributing to Baron Corbin’s downfall at Sunday Night’s Main Event, it’d make sense to see the former US Champion seek revenge on the rapper.

Given that their first match had a five minute time limit, we could see Corbin and Yachty face off again, in a match with a traditional ruleset.

With Lil Yachty having a number of music tour dates booked throughout the rest of the year, Corbin could take out Yachty to write him off of WWE TV until WrestleMania 43 season.

Out of all of the options available for Lil Yachty’s next opponent, Baron Corbin seems the logical choice.

NXT return

Baron Corbin’s return to NXT in 2023 turned out to be the start of one of the most inspired runs of the former champion’s career, with Corbin helping to elevate a number of rising stars, and forming a tag-team with Bron Breakker.

Now that Corbin is at a loose end, we could see him pay another visit to the Performance Center, returning with even more experience under his belt.

In the latter few years of Corbin’s last run with WWE, and the first few months of his current stint, the star has been used in an enhancement role, putting younger stars through their paces to prepare them for the main event spotlight.

It’d be fun to see Corbin mix it up with the likes of Myles Borne, Saquon Shugars, and perhaps even NXT Champion Grayson Waller, who returned to the developmental brand himself earlier this year.

Bron Breakker tag-team reunion

Having previously faced off at No Mercy 2023, Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker first teamed up in January 2024, competing in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament.

The duo went on to become a competitive tandem, even holding the NXT Tag Team Championship together for 55 days.

With the duo going their separate ways following Corbin being drafted back to SmackDown that April, it’d be interesting to see this team reunite on the main roster.

Bron Breakker is currently a World Tag Team Champion representing The Vision alongside Austin Theory, but as the past year has proven for Breakker, a lot can happen in the next few months.
