What happened with Bron Breakker in WWE? Why the Vision member hasn’t won the World Heavyweight Championship

Comparing Bron Breakker’s current position on the card to where he was a year ago, some fans have been left scratching their heads over the Raw star’s booking.

During his NXT days, Breakker was presented as the brand’s most dominant star, holding the NXT Championship twice, and interestingly, challenging for Seth Rollins’ World Heavyweight Championship at the June 20, 2023 Gold Rush event.

Breakker hit the ground running following his main roster debut in 2024, winning the Intercontinental Championship twice during his main roster rookie year.

With Bron Breakker touted as a future world champion, the powerhouse aligned himself with Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman to form The Vision in April 2025.

With Bron Breakker unsuccessfully challenging for CM Punk’s World Heavyweight Championship on the January 5 Raw episode it appeared that this would be the first of many world title bouts for Breakker in 2026, who was feuding with the World Heavyweight Champion in the lead-up to WrestleMania 42.

This turned out not to be the case, with Bron Breakker having not challenged for either brand’s world championship since then, and instead being World Tag Team Champions with Austin Theory lower down the card.

While this technically is a world title, it’s clear that WWE was previously positioning Breakker to be the company’s top singles champion, leading many to question, what went wrong?

To the surprise of many, Bron Breakker was the first star eliminated from the 2026 Royal Rumble match, attacked by a hooded assailant and thrown over the top rope by a debuting Oba Femi.

In the days following this, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that Bron Breakker was at one point planned to win the men’s Royal Rumble and challenge for CM Punk’s World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 42, with Roman Reigns planned to face off against Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

In the end, WWE had Cody Rhodes retain the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton on night one of WrestleMania 42, with night two closing out with Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns dethroning World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk.

Bron Breakker actually suffered a serious hernia which required surgery shortly after WrestleMania 42, and only returned at the show to attack Seth Rollins, but as nobody could’ve predicted this freak injury, it doesn’t explain why WWE got cold feet with Breakker.

A July episode of WWE Unreal confirmed Dave Meltzer’s reports, providing more insight on serious discussions about having Bron Breakker win the Rumble.

WWE Chief Content Officer explained during the episode that the creative team were very conscious about how organic Breakker’s push felt, and didn’t want to seem like they were shoving him down fans’ throats.

Triple H said:

“The risk with Bron Breakker is everything from, can he actually do it? Can he mentally handle it? Will fans accept it? You have to really be sure.”

So, why hasn’t Bron Breakker returned to the World Heavyweight Championship picture in the months since?

There are several potential reasons as to why WWE kept Breakker away from the main event picture following his return.

Firstly, the company may have wanted to ease Breakker back into in-ring action, instead of throwing him in at the deep end as the face of the company. Breakker’s first feud back was against in-ring veteran Seth Rollins, and the star has had been wrestling in the tag-team division for much of the time he has been back since.

That brings us on to the second potential reason; The Vision was in desperate need of Breakker during Logan Paul and Bronson Reed’s absences. With both Paul and Reed suffering arm injuries which kept them out of action, the faction needed someone to fill in as a tag-team champion next to Austin Theory.

Thirdly, and probably most unfortunately for Breakker… Oba Femi happened. WWE is clearly committed to presenting Oba Femi as the next big thing in wrestling, having The Ruler retire Brock Lesnar, and win the King of the Ring tournament.

While Breakker has recently been feuding with Femi, he is at risk of falling a lot further down the card, as WWE prepares Oba Femi for his eventual clash with World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns, which is reportedly slated for WrestleMania 43.

It will be interesting to see how WWE books Bron Breakker over the next few months, with Bronson Reed returning in the Vision, and with WrestleMania season right around the corner.
