Is ‘The Anvil’ On A Table Going A Bit Too Far?
Using a person’s late father to promote a wrestling match is tacky. In some circumstances, it can be downright cruel. Is WWE in the right in using the late Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhardt’s death as a literal prop?
If the Neidhardts approved the angle, which, as a wrestling family, it is very possible that they did, I don’t see the harm. If ‘The Anvil’ was the kind of man who loved wrestling in all of its shock value glory, I don’t see the harm. In fact, it could be seen as a tribute.
It’s not like there isn’t tacky precedent for this kind of thing. Big Boss Man stole Big Show’s father’s casket from the funeral with Show clinging to the top for dear life, for heaven’s sake.
I guess it all comes down to context. I don’t believe that any of us can know for sure whether this was an insult to his memory or a tribute. Maybe someday Natalya will talk about it, and we’ll know for sure.
