NJPW
Over the past few weeks, there have been quite a few AEW vs. NJPW matches taking shape.
The stars from both promotions have been teasing potential showdowns that could take place either before the end of the year or at least by next year’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 21 event.
Whether it takes place in the Tokyo Dome or another major AEW event, these co-promotional battles are exciting fans on what could possibly go down.
Here are five potential AEW vs. NJPW teased matches coming soon.
Triple B AEW World Championship: MJF (c) vs. Ryohei Oiwa
On the Road to King of Pro Wrestling Day 2 event, MJF made a surprise appearance via a video message.
In the video, Maxwell Jacob Friedman issued a challenge to Ryohei Oiwa for a battle of the headlocks.
Stating that he plans to come to New Japan Pro Wrestling, MJF even proclaimed that he would put his Triple B AEW World Championship up for grabs in this bout.
Now that Oiwa came up short against Yota Tsuji at NJPW King of Pro Wrestling, it might set up a cross-promotional contest with MJF for “The Grip” coming soon.
Jon Moxley vs. Shingo Takagi
At NJPW Destruction in Kobe 2026, Shingo Takagi defeated Claudio Castagnoli.
Following the win, Takagi issued a challenge to Castagnoli’s Death Riders stablemate Jon Moxley.
Then at NJPW King of Pro Wrestling 2026, Moxley sent a video message where he stated that he was returning to New Japan.
While Takagi took offense to Mox not mentioning him, it feels like this rematch from Battle In The Valley 2024 will happen in the coming months.
IWGP Tag Team Championships: Knockout Brothers (Yuto-Ice & OSKAR) (c) vs. Cope & Cage (Adam Copeland & Christian Cage)
In recent interviews, The Knockout Brothers have discussed the relationship between NJPW and AEW.
Talking about a possible dream match with AEW talent, OSKAR brought up potentially face Adam Copeland and Christian Cage.
With Yuto-Ice calling out AEW stars, it seems like this dream match may become a reality.
Considering “The Rated R Superstar” wants to compete in the Tokyo Dome, Cope and Cage could come to NJPW to face KOB for the IWGP Tag Team Championships at Wrestle Kingdom 21.
AEW World Championship: Will Ospreay (c) vs. Callum Newman
Back at NJPW New Year’s Dash in January, Will Ospreay returned to the company and stated that he wanted to reunite with United Empire.
Stating he was willing to do things Callum Newman’s way, Ospreay’s return created a huge amount of tension between the mentor and protégé of United Empire.
After Ospreay brought the group to AEW, Newman took offense, giving an ultimatum to both Great O Khan and HENARE to choose a side.
With the two men set to team to face Knockout Brothers for the IWGP Tag Team Titles at Power Struggle 2026, it feels like the stage is being set for Ospreay to potentially defend the AEW World Championship against Newman before long.
IWGP Heavyweight Championship: Yota Tsuji (c) vs. Kenny Omega
At King of Pro Wrestling, Kenny Omega made his return to NJPW by attacking Yota Tsuji and laying out the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.
Issuing a challenge to “The Gene Blast,” it seems like Omega is back to claim the top prize in New Japan.
Omega facing Tsuji feels like a Tokyo Dome main event in every way possible.
In what could headline next year’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 21, Omega seems destined to attempt to take down Tsuji and prove AEW’s dominance.
