Penta has been crowned the winner of the 2026 men’s WWE Money in the Bank ladder match tonight in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The field for the men’s Money in the Bank match this year was made up of CM Punk, Kevin Owens, Bron Breakker, Trick Williams,  Je’Von Evans, Penta and Je’Von Evans.

One of the big stories of the match was Evans being stretchered out and taken away in an ambulance after a spear from Breakker that sent him crashing into the barricade.

That left the other five men to go at it, though there was a sixth man involved of sorts in the form of Lil Yachty who attempted to help Williams before he suffered a Stunner from Owens.

With arch rivals Owens and Punk going at it, Breakker slid in to spear both and then speared Penta as well. There was then a spear for Williams as well as yet another for Owens and Punk, this time through the barricade.

Everyone was down at that point besides Breakker, which is when it was revealed that Evans had actually hijacked the ambulance and driven it back into the arena to re-enter himself into the match.

Evans took out Breakker and then headed into the ring where he was met by Penta and Williams, who he took out with an OG Cutter before looking to climb a ladder and win Money in the Bank.

However, he took too much time setting the ladder up, and Breakker was able to recover. After Evans climbed the ladder, Breakker was able to push it over and sent Evans flying through the ambulance on the ramp.

It was Breakker’s turn to scale the ladder, but this time it was Penta who interrupted, landing a Mexican Destroyer to Breakker onto a ladder.

From there, the coast was clear, and Penta was the one who climbed the ladder and became Mr Money in the Bank.

This means Penta – who was recently unsuccessful in challenging Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship – is guaranteed a championship match of his choosing, whenever he wants, any time in the next year.

Has Money in the Bank run its course?

The Money in the Bank ladder match has been around in WWE for over 20 years now, with the first edition taking place at WrestleMania 21 in 2005.

It’s impressive that such a stipulation has continued all this time, and really, in the 20 years it’s been around, the match itself and the overall concept of cashing in the Money in the Bank contract hasn’t really changed at all.

However, its longevity means we’re kind of seeing the same thing every year, both in terms of the ladder matches themselves but then the storylines and cash-ins that follow.

There have now been 38 Money in the Bank matches throughout history, and it feels like we’ve hit the point of diminishing returns with it now.

How many more different variations of storylines can WWE really come up with for the Money in the Bank contract holders?

Just a few years ago we had the complete mess of Austin Theory cashing in on a midcard title and failing to win it, and really, that felt like the end.

It’s kept going since then though, and yes there have been some big moments like Seth Rollins’ cash-in on CM Punk last year, but that was unique due to Rollins’ injury.

Even if WWE doesn’t want to completely ditch Money in the Bank as a PLE and a match, perhaps it’s time to change how the cash-ins are handled or something like that – just to move things on and evolve from repeating stuff we’ve already seen from the previous 38 contract holders.
