Chad Gable became WWE Intercontinental Champion at SummerSlam, defeating Penta to win the gold and close the chapter on his feud with luchadores.

With Gable recently defending his gold against Rey Mysterio, there have been some rumors swirling about the champion’s future rivalries, and his eventual title loss.

From up-and-coming stars to former title holders, any of these stars could be the one to dethrone Chad Gable in the coming months.

Here are five stars who could be the next Intercontinental Champion after Chad Gable.

Bronson Reed

Bronson Reed made his WWE return at Sunday Night Main Event, attacking Oba Femi during Femi’s match against Bron Breakker.

With Reed having been off TV for six months due to injury, WWE will want to re-establish him as the dominant singles star of The Vision.

With Bron Breakker and Austin Theory reigning as World Tag Team Champions and Logan Paul currently out of action, it’s up to Reed to bring some singles gold back to the faction.

Reed has yet to win a championship on the main roster, and the Intercontinental Title could be the first piece of gold he acquires on Raw.

Dragon Lee

Dragon Lee received a lot of fanfare when he first joined WWE in 2022, with Rey Mysterio highlighting Lee as the future of lucha libre in the following year.

The former World Tag Team Champion has become a mainstay on Raw, but has also yet to win a singles title on Raw and SmackDown.

Dragon Lee was the second highest finisher from the Raw brand in the recent World Heavyweight Championship #1 contender’s tournament, making it to the semifinals before losing to Fenix. The only WWE Raw star who finished higher was Penta, who won the tournament.

With Lee challenging for Gable’s gold at non-televised live events during WWE’s tour of South America, we could soon see these matches brought to TV, where the luchador would have the opportunity to realize his dreams.

Dominik Mysterio

With Dominik Mysterio defending the AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano at Triplemanía 34 Sunday, Dirty Dom could leave Mexico empty handed following this weekend.

If he is titleless come Monday, we could see him target Chad Gable to attempt to win back the Intercontinental Championship.

Dominik has shared the ring with Chad Gable several times this summer. Dirty Dom teamed with JD McDonagh in a losing effort against Chad Gable and Penta on the August 3 Raw episode, and challenged for Gable’s IC Title during two non-televised house shows later that month.

With Chad Gable having recently defeated Rey Mysterio, Dominik would have even more bragging rights if he was able to become a three-time Intercontinental Champion.

Je’Von Evans

Je’Von Evans has noted on numerous occasions that he is aiming to become the youngest ever world champion in WWE history.

This isn’t the only record Evans is looking to break, with the 22-year old recently noting that he’s also “locked in and focused” on becoming the youngest WWE Intercontinental Champion ever.

With Jeff Hardy winning the IC Title at the age of 23 in April 2001, Je’Von Evans has around a year to realize this dream.

With Evans’ proximity to the Intercontinental Championship picture, we could soon see Evans defeat Gable to win his first championship in WWE.

Ethan Page

Ethan Page has been in the Intercontinental Championship picture pretty much since he was called up to the WWE main roster in April.

With Page pinning then-Intercontinental Champion Penta on the May 4 Raw episode, the former NXT Champion challenged for the IC Title at the May 23 Saturday Night’s Main Event show, ultimately coming up short.

Ethan Page has since challenged for the Intercontinental Championship 13 times at non-televised house shows, with matches against former champion Penta, and current titleholder Chad Gable.

It’s clear that WWE likes Ethan Page in this division, so it feels like only a matter of time until they pull the trigger and make him champion.
