2017 Non-Title Matches
Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Dolph Ziggler
This match was Shinsuke Nakamura’s WWE main roster debut and one year later he’s competing for the WWE Championship. The build to this match was essentially just Ziggler undermining Nakamura because he hadn’t achieved any main roster success, despite the ‘Artist’s previous successes in NXT, being a former NXT Champion.
The match itself was edging towards the lackluster side of things, having a relatively slow pace for the most part, and Ziggler dominating Nakamura for most of the match.
Nakamura did, of course, eventually rally close to the end and defeated the ‘Show Off’ following a Kinshasa to pick up a win in his WWE (main roster) debut.
A month later, both men competed in the Money in the Bank ladder match at June’s pay-per-view of the same name.
As mentioned, Nakamura will face AJ Styles tomorrow for the WWE Championship in a No Disqualifications match, whereas Ziggler hasn’t made the card at all.
