Grayson Waller WWE main roster return plans: Has the NXT Champion earned a major push?

One of the best decisions WWE has made all year has been allowing Grayson Waller to escape catering on Monday Night Raw, and instead put his talents to use back in NXT.

From his very first appearance back on NXT on July 28, ‘The Aussie Icon’ showed exactly what he’s been capable of, but not allowed the opportunity to properly show on the main roster, as he cut a scathing promo on the NXT men’s roster and how he’s been used in WWE in recent years.

With the 36-year-old following that up with his first NXT Championship win a month later at Heatwave, fans will be excited for the prospect of seeing this version of Grayson Waller on Raw or SmackDown in the future.

While it remains to be seen when that will happen, here are three potential plans for Grayson Waller’s WWE main roster return.

Challenges CM Punk at Wrestlepalooza 2026

One of the most interesting moments of Grayson Waller’s NXT run thus far was his run-in with CM Punk after an NXT live event in August.

Taking umbrage with the way his fellow NXT stars fawned over ‘The Best in the World’, Waller told the then Undisputed WWE Champion that he would be coming for his title in the future.

While Punk no longer holds that championship, a feud between he and Waller would still be something many fans would like to see based on this exchange. Waller has the belief that he can hold his own on the microphone with anyone in WWE, including Punk, so to see that theory put to the test would certainly be a treat.

Plans would likely to have to move fairly fast if it was to happen, but Wrestlepalooza 2026 is coming to Perth, Australia on Saturday, December 12. That match would be the perfect main event, and with his home crowd behind him, Waller could be propelled into superstardom in just one night.

Targets former tag team partner Austin Theory

Grayson Waller was not afraid to throw a jab at his former tag team partner Austin Theory during his aforementioned NXT return appearance on July 28.

Waller referred to Theory as “dead weight” and “allergic to the microphone”, but the fact remains: Theory managed to land on his feet with a spot in one of WWE’s top factions after A-Town Down Under split up, while Waller transitioned into a comedy role.

The resentment towards Theory could be something Waller can use when he returns to the main roster; their tag team split was teased for an eternity, but never saw a true payoff on WWE TV, perhaps there’s still time to close that chapter?

Ends Chad Gable’s Intercontinental Title reign

Chad Gable is on the run of his life in WWE right now, with the former Olympian following up a match of the year contender against El Grande Americano at AAA Noche de Los Grandes, with a babyface turn and eventually a first ever singles title win; defeating Penta at SummerSlam for the Intercontinental Championship.

While fans are enjoying Gable put on show-stealing matches every other week, eventually a heel star is going to bring an end to his cinderella run.

Ethan Page is seemingly in position to be that guy, and there would be few complaining if ‘All Ego’ received that push, however, Grayson Waller would be another suitable candidate. Waller has yet to win a singles title on main roster, and the Intercontinental Title would be a perfect way to start.
