LA Knight has the biggest match of his career coming up, with the star set to challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Knight will challenge for Roman Reigns gold at the upcoming Money in the Bank premium live event, which will emanate from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on October 10.
The challenger has had numerous confrontations with Roman Reigns on Raw since SummerSlam, fuelling speculation about the upcoming match.
With there recently being plenty of discourse about the possibility of LA Knight becoming a world champion, and criticisms about WWE just cycling through the same few stars in the main event scene, some fans have questioned whether or not WWE will finally pull the trigger at the upcoming premium live event.
With Money in the Bank right around the corner, many fans are asking, will LA Knight ever win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship?
Previous WWE world title feuds
This will not be Knight’s first time challenging for a WWE world title. Knight and Roman Reigns previously faced off at Crown Jewel in November 2023, with Reigns’ WWE Undisputed Universal Championship on the line.
The OTC was ultimately victorious, defeating Knight after 20 minutes of action in the show’s main event.
The popular star challenged for Reigns’ gold again at Royal Rumble 2024, with the Tribal Chief retaining the gold in a four-way match also featuring Randy Orton and AJ Styles.
His most recent WWE world title challenges took place over the summer of 2025, with Knight losing via disqualification to World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins on the August 4 Raw episode.
Then, at Clash In Paris, Rollins defeated Knight, Jey Uso and CM Punk to retain the World Heavyweight Title, following interference from Becky Lynch.
Title change incoming?
With LA Knight set to step up to Roman Reigns at Money in the Bank, fans are split as to whether they think the former US Champion will leave New Orleans with Raw’s top prize.
Following Triple H acknowledging fan criticisms about the same stars being in the world title scene during the SummerSlam post-show press conference, and Roman Reigns’ recent comments about what it takes to create new stars, it’s clear WWE is focusing on establishing new names as top title contenders and main eventers.
Because of this, it’d make a lot of sense to see LA Knight hold the World Heavyweight Championship, to help build a star whose name isn’t Roman Reigns, CM Punk or Cody Rhodes.
Also, with the Undisputed WWE Championship scene being so exciting this year, we could see WWE inject some of that unpredictability into the World Heavyweight Championship picture with a huge title change.
The Undisputed WWE Championship has changed hands five times this year aheady, with Drew McIntyre winning the gold in January, and Cody Rhodes winning the title back ahead of WrestleMania 42.
Sami Zayn became a first-time WWE world champion in June at Night of Champions, ahead of CM Punk winning the championship nine days later on Raw, during his in-ring return.
The most recent Undisputed WWE Title switch took place on the September 11 SmackDown episode, with Sami Zayn dethroning CM Punk to become a two-time champion.
With the World Heavyweight Championship only changing hands once this year – with Roman Reigns defeating CM Punk at WrestleMania 42 – we another title change on the Raw brand could be imminent.
The next World Heavyweight Champion
A big reason for fans predicting that LA Knight will fall short at Money in the Bank comes down to the fact that WWE appears to be building to another major Roman Reigns title match.
Following WrestleMania 42, Oba Femi called out Roman Reigns, issuing a challenge for the World Heavyweight Title.
WWE has actively kept Femi and Reigns apart since The Ruler’s verbal challenge, with Femi even forfeiting his guaranteed world title match after winning the King of the Ring tournament to instead face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.
With previous reports indicating that Reigns vs Femi is planned for SummerSlam, the company might want to keep Reigns as champion through the winter and WrestleMania season, giving The Ruler the opportunity to topple a WWE giant.
Between LA Knight, Oba Femi, Finn Balor, and even underdogs like Matt Cardona, it’ll be interesting to see which stars win one of WWE’s top prizes in the coming months and years.
