The Best Match From Every WrestleMania

WrestleMania 2000 – The Hardys vs. The Dudleys vs. Edge & Christian

Just as Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon revolutionized the Ladder match at WrestleMania X, these three teams took it up several notches six years later.

The Hardys, The Dudleys, and Edge & Christian all took part in the first-ever Triangle Ladder match with the WWF World Tag Team Championships up for grabs. This was a car crash type match with bodies flying and tables breaking everywhere. It may be the weakest of the three matches these three teams had but it still stands out as a great ladder match and the start of something very special.

WrestleMania X-Seven – Steve Austin vs. The Rock

There was perhaps no match that better to mark the end of the Attitude Era than this. The two biggest stars battling in the main event of WrestleMania once again.

Austin and The Rock put on one of the very best ‘Mania main events ever this time around. Their No Disqualification stipulation allowed them to use numerous foreign objects and tell a more compelling story at the end of the match. Austin, desperate to win back the WWF Championship, aligned himself with his nemesis, Mr. McMahon.

McMahon and Austin double-teamed The Rock until Austin was able to make the pin and win the match. The Austin heel turn may have been a complete failure in hindsight but that does not stop this match from being as good as it was.

WrestleMania X8 – The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan

If there was a shortlist of true WrestleMania moments, rest assured that this match would be on the list.

Hulk Hogan and The Rock’s match at WrestleMania X8 was no technical masterpiece, but it did bring the Toronto crowd to a fever pitch like very few matches before or after. The crowd loved Hogan dearly despite him being the heel in the match.

When Hogan Hulked Up the Skydome became unglued. When you consider the goal of wrestling is to elicit a reaction from your audience, this match should right up there with the best of them.

WrestleMania XIX – Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho

Only a few matches into Shawn Michaels’ return from retirement, he proved that he can still steal the show on the big stage.

WrestleMania XIX is the best WrestleMania of all time from an in-ring standpoint. There were great matches up and down the card but the one we chose as the best of the night was this. Michaels and Chris Jericho had an excellent match with the story centered around Michaels’ influence on the younger Jericho. Jericho performed many of Michaels’ signature maneuvers but at the end of the match, it was Michaels who was able to get the upper hand. He rolled up Jericho and scored the pinfall.

The post-match was just as good as the match itself. As Michaels extended his hand for a show of sportsmanship, a weeping Jericho hugged his idol before kicking him low.

WrestleMania XX – Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit

For obvious reasons, this match is difficult to talk about. While it is impossible to ignore the actions of Chris Benoit, the main event of WrestleMania XX remains one of the best matches in ‘Mania history.

Triple H and Shawn Michaels had an ongoing rivalry in the early 2000s that had been going on for close to two years at this point. Throw in Benoit who had won the Royal Rumble and you have three great workers ready to tear the house down in the main event.

The match was extraordinary and lead to one of the most emotional moments in WWE history when the victorious Benoit and WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero embraced and posed together at the end of the show.
