9. Steve Austin gets run down (1999)
From one murderous entry to another. This was the incident that led to the previous entry on this list as Steve Austin was run down by a car at Survivor Series 1999.
The incident is remembered as a prime example of WWE‘s bait-and-switch promotional tactics. Austin needed neck surgery following complications from the injury he suffered when Owen Hart tombstoned him at SummerSlam 1997. Instead of pulling him out of the event in the weeks prior, WWE promoted Austin as a participant in the main event of the show. Austin was intended to wrestle The Rock and Triple H in a three-way for the WWF Championship but instead was taken out by the hit-and-run and replaced by the Big Show.
As Austin was being interviewed by Kevin Kelly, Triple H jumped him and lead him into the parking garage. As Austin wandered the garage looking for Triple H, a car in the distance turned on its lights and drove into Austin before speeding away. The incident allowed Austin to be written off TV for nearly a year.
This was another very memorable moment but I promise this will be the last attempted murder on this list…maybe.
