As Dominik Mysterio’s fourth year as a Judgment Day member approaches, it may be time for the WWE star to depart.
The current AAA Mega Champion, Dominik Mysterio’s presentation in Mexico sees him as a top heel, with his WWE run being much more comedy-focused.
With the star facing Danhausen at WWE SummerSlam in a Human Monies on a Pole match, Mysterio has reportedly expressed frustration about the difference in booking between companies. A source noted that Mysterio believes he should be booked in a more serious manner on WWE television, particularly as he is a top champion in AAA, yet Judgment Day is a limiting factor in that presentation.
Mysterio joined Judgment Day on September 5, 2022, with the fourth anniversary of that moment fast approaching, but his future could be beyond the faction.
Three-Time WWE Intercontinental Champion
Capturing the WWE Intercontinental Championship for the first time at WrestleMania 41 last year, Dominik Mysterio was the victor in the Fatal Four-Way match that also featured Finn Balor, Bron Breakker and Penta, losing it to John Cena in November and taking it back at Survivor Series: WarGames later that month.
The title currently sits with Chad Gable, who beat Penta for the title at SummerSlam. Separating Mysterio from Judgment Day to avoid any interference would give the star a chance to showcase the talent he has long had against a star who is on his own ascendancy in the form of Gable.
Indeed, Mysterio’s feud with Penta, which saw the masked star defeat the Judgment Day member to become Intercontinental Champion in March of this year, is further testament to just what he can bring to the ring.
Leave Of Absence
Absence could make the heart grow fonder. Mysterio declaring that he’s taking a ‘leave of absence’ from WWE would give him time off screen, potentially allowing him to focus on a run in AAA to continue his heel run over there alongside Omos, El Hijo del Vikingo and Dorian Roldan.
Time away from WWE could see him brought back at an opportune moment, perhaps negotiating a brand move into the bargain and making it clear that he’s no longer involved in Judgment Day. There’s a likelihood they would track him down eventually, but a refresh has to be a good thing after so many years of Judgment Day membership.
Dominik Mysterio: World Champion
In the history of Judgment Day, Damian Priest is the only member to have held the WWE World Championship, with Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan being Women’s World Champions. Morgan is currently in her third reign, with two taking place in Judgment Day.
It’s difficult to envision any male member of Judgment Day as World Champion, least of all Dominik Mysterio. He certainly has the potential to hold the top title, as does Finn Balor. Separating him from the faction could fuel that goal, particularly if it were to happen while he also held the AAA Mega Championship, enhancing that title by association with the star.
Stop The ‘Ladies Man’ Gimmick
Whatever direction Mysterio takes out of Judgment Day, it’s time to stop the “ladies man” thing that Mysterio has going on. Entertaining as it may be, Mysterio has gone from Rhea Ripley to Liv Morgan, with Roxanne Perez getting close to the star, too.
Mysterio has absolutely mastered these on-screen relationships, but it’s doing him no favors and there are likely many who are waiting for him to betray Morgan in the same way he did Ripley at SummerSlam in 2024.
The ‘Greatest Mysterio Of All Time’ Will Get His Moment
Considering he had his first WWE match against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam in August 2020, Dominik Mysterio has gone on to become one of the most watchable stars on the main roster in the subsequent years.
No longer directly associated with his father on WWE television, there’s no doubt that Judgment Day has been the making of the star, yet it has gone from being a spotlight for his talent to being a shadow over what he can be.
Hopefully, WWE will see what they’ve got in Mysterio, positioning in such a way that he can explore his own potential. The other option is that he takes his talent elsewhere, which could leave a gap that may be difficult to fill.
