At WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event, Randy Orton defeated Cody Rhodes.
This match saw a moment where Rhodes had an opportunity to deliver a Punt Kick to his rival.
However, Cody became conflicted if this was the right move to do and had sympathy for Orton who was begging him off.
After this decision led to his loss, many fans came out of the event wondering if Rhodes was on track for a heel turn.
Despite this being one of many teases for it, recent reports have indicated that Rhodes is not expected to turn heel anytime soon.
Not wanting to ruin his merchandise moving potential, WWE has been hesitant to ever turn “The American Nightmare” heel.
With the company currently feel like they are in need of a spark, it might be the right time to finally pull the trigger on a Cody Rhodes heel turn.
A heel Cody Rhodes could dramatically alter the entire landscape of WWE

When he first returned to WWE in 2022, Cody Rhodes felt like the hottest new babyface in the promotion.
Over the past four years, Rhodes has explored any and every potential feud for him.
Whether it be against Roman Reigns and The Bloodline or Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton, Rhodes has squared off with a who’s who of WWE stars.
From a heel John Cena to Kevin Owens, it feels like WWE has exhausted every possible option for a babyface version of Rhodes to feud with.
At WWE SummerSlam 2026 Night One, CM Punk defeated Cody Rhodes to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship.
The babyface vs. babyface dynamic worked on this night, but WWE might need to switch things up before returning to this rivalry.
Cody going through a transformation where he becomes resentful and obsessed with winning back the Undisputed WWE Championship could add a great deal of depth to his character.
Being the ultimate “white meat babyface” over the past few years, a heel turn for Cody Rhodes would garner a lot of interest from the fans.

Seeing Rhodes being the heel against Punk, Kevin Owens or Roman Reigns would bring a whole new fresh feel to those feuds.
This could also open the door for “The American Nightmare” to square off with new stars like Oba Femi, Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans.
Based on all these compelling possibilities, it feels like “now or never” for WWE to finally give the fans a Cody Rhodes heel turn that could revitalize the company in a significant way.
