1. Mae Young Classic – Mercedes Martinez vs. Meiko Satomura
This was one of the best women’s matches of the year so far. Stronger than Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair. Maybe even stronger than every NXT Women’s Championship TakeOver match. It was simply two veterans, two ring generals, taking charge and working an incredibly well-paced match, working the crowd, and proving to everyone that women’s wrestling has been great for a very long time, you just needed to know where to look.
It’s simply a shame that this had to take place in the second round. A quarter-finals encounter would have given it a lot more gravity and would have given the crowd an extra match from Mercedes Martinez. To be honest, I wasn’t sold on her after the first Mae Young Classic but she is one of the very best.
If you’re not watching the Mae Young Classic, this week’s episode is one to start as all four matches were solid to outstanding.
