It’s no secret that tag team wrestling has not been a focal point in WWE for longer than most of us have been watching the company.
After the titles were initially unified back in 2022, the titles were once again separated in 2024, with the World Tag Team Championship and WWE Tag Team Championship now both in use on television.
Initially the move seemed like a good one, with teams like DIY, Motor City Machine Guns and the Street Profits able to secure title reigns they otherwise likely wouldn’t have.
However, it has become increasingly clear that WWE needs to unify the titles once again.
Lack of depth in Tag Team Divisions
In 2025, SmackDown’s tag team division was thriving, with teams such as the Street Profits, DIY, Motor City Machine Guns, Fraxiom and more fighting it out to hold the gold.
However, the glory days of the division are now long over, with the current SmackDown division being solely the MFTs, the newly debuted Bakusai, and sporadic appearances from the War Raiders and Fraxiom.
Raw’s division is even weaker than SmackDown’s, with the Usos, Alpha Academy and OTM being the only true teams on the brand right now.
While even combined the division wouldn’t be super stacked, it would definitely create more fresh matches than we currently get.
Tag Team Championship used as a prop
Bron Breakker and Austin Theory are yet to defend the World Tag Team Championship after over 80 days with the gold
The World Tag Team Championship may as well not even exist on Monday Night Raw right now, as both Bron Breakker and Austin Theory are off doing their own things and are barely even seen on television together.
After winning the titles back from the Street Profits on July 6, The Vision have yet to defend the titles a single time, and there doesn’t seem to be any potential title defences in the works as Breakker is busy with Money In The Bank and Oba Femi.
Right now, the World Tag Team Championship basically exists to be a prop to make any alliance seem more credible, whether it be the Bloodline, the Vision or the Judgment Day over the past year.
If the two titles were to once again be unified, WWE would only need to focus on one team, instead of pretending to care about a second one.
