AEW Backstage Update On Miro Amidst WWE Return Talk AEW

An update has emerged on the status of Miro in AEW after his wife CJ Perry (Lana) pretty much admitted he’ll probably return to WWE.

Speaking on 92.7 WMAY recently, Perry said:

“Rusev Day will never die. It’s always going to be around, the kids are going to want to sing it and I’m sure it will make a return in WWE at some point. Rusev — well, whatever he shows (up) back in; whatever frickin name or gimmick or character he returns (as) at some point, in WWE is going to be iconic.

“You know, he, that’s the great thing about wrestling is it doesn’t matter what company you work for, what promotion, anything can happen. Let’s be honest, we know that everyone always returns back to WWE at some point.”

Miro has been absent from AEW TV since September, reportedly because he didn’t like what was pitched to him leading up to November’s Full Gear pay-per-view.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said:

“In September, Tony Khan came to Miro and he had this idea which would go to a match on the November pay-per-view (Full Gear). And he (Miro) didn’t want to do it.

“A lot of the people that come from WWE are very leery – obviously Bryan Danielson being the exception – about doing jobs. And then it becomes very difficult to book when you don’t really wanna do programs where you’re gonna lose. But anyway, they went through and now November’s over and now we’re in the new cycle and they were gonna bring him back and try to come up with ideas for him. And they very well may.

“Then his wife comes in, and says ‘Rusev Day’s gonna come back (to WWE), everybody goes back to WWE’.

“If I’m Tony Khan at this point, given everything that’s happened, and the wife of one of the wrestlers goes and says, essentially everyone goes back to WWE, it’s kinda like, why waste my time pushing this guy, I’ve got 100 guys on the roster who want to be here, and now you’ve got these guys who wanna be in WWE.

“There’s guys there, Keith Lee and (Swerve) Strickland obviously, they had chances to go back and they didn’t. And they didn’t even entertain it. But a lot of the guys wanted to leave. The guys who sign there, if they’re guys who really want to be (in WWE), and just got fired and everything but can’t wait to get hired back – I don’t know that those guys have been that beneficial.”

It’s not a secret that Miro wouldn’t be the first ex-WWE current-AEW guy that wants to return to what’s now the Land of Levesque, but, with the exception of William Regal, Tony Khan has yet to allow that to happen.

Regal is set to start with WWE in January as a Vice President of the company, but according to Khan, won’t be able to appear on-screen for the first year.

Miro’s last match to date was at All Out on September 4 when he, Darby Allin and Sting beat the House of Black.

**UPDATE – Miro has seemingly responded to the reports regarding his AEW absence, taking to Twitter to ask Meltzer:

. @davemeltzerWON , what happened between January and June ?
