The AEW Continental Classic continued on tonight’s episode of AEW Collision with three more matches in the round robin tournament.
Kicking off tonight’s episode of Collision, a bout full of emotion with Claudio Castagnoli taking on Andrade el Idolo after the latter’s brutal battle against Bryan Danielson in the last round.
On last week’s Collision, el Idolo and Danielson had a notable gruesome match with Andrade targeting Danielson’s injured eye.
Bryan Danielson suffered a broken orbital bone and required surgery after an injury sustained during a match with Andrade el Idolo.
With Castagnoli first putting Andrade in his big spin move, he then locked in a Sharpshooter until Andrade el Idolo reversed it into a Figure Four, throwing Claudio into a difficult position in the center of the ring.
Castagnoli was able to drag himself and Andrade backwards to the ring rope to break the hold and remain in the bout.
Shenanigans were again afoot with Andrade as he took off the top turnbuckle cover, attempting to smash Castagnoli but still couldn’t get the job done even with an Avalanche Powerbomb.
However in the end, perhaps the shenanigans came back to bite him as after commentary speculating that el Idolo hit his hamstring on it, the referee paused to replace the padding.
Behind the ref’s back, Claudio Castagnoli dropped a low blow in addition to a big piledriver to pick up the pinfall victory and remain alive in the round robin tournament.
Eddie Kingston needed to win to stay alive in the Continental Classic as he took on Daniel Garcia.
In the end, Kingston was able to squeak out the win to stay alive in the tournament in which he also has put his NJPW Strong Openweight Championship and the ROH World Championship on the line.
In the main event and last AEW Continental Classic match of the night, Bryan Danielson took on Brody King in what was a hard-hitting bout.
With Danielson bleeding from his injured eye yet again by the end of the match, Danielson narrowly picked up the victory over King.
