The AEW Continental Classic is returning and the first entrant was announced on the November 6 episode of Dynamite.
Debuting on November 22, 2023 and running through to December 30 of that year, the AEW Continental Classic was a tournament that saw matches take place across AEW’s television programming.
The round-robin tournament culminated at AEW World’s End on December 30 and saw Eddie Kingston beat Jon Moxley.
Competitors were broken into two leagues – Blue and Gold – scoring three points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss.
The winner of the tournament would go on to be crowned AEW Continental Champion.
As can be seen in the video below this news story, the current AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada is looking to make history in this year’s Classic.
The video features Jim Ross discussing the importance of Okada, saying:
“Okada is one of my favorite talents ever in pro-wrestling.
“Truck loads of charisma and skill.
“(In a) list of the top five wrestlers in the entire world, most people who are knowledgeable will have him in that list of the top five.
“Some (would put him) at number one.”

The video notes that Okada has four G1 Climax victories to his name, a win in the 2024 Classic would see him tie Mr G1 Masahiro Chono.
Chono currently holds a record of five major tournament victories, having won the G1 Climax in 1991, 1992, 1994, 2002 and 2005.
Okada would share his thoughts on Chono’s achievement, saying:
“Who is Chono? Chono is not an international star like the Rainmaker.
“I’m the greatest tournament wrestler in the history of this sport.
“Kazuchika Okada is Japan’s greatest export.”
